How it fits
Biotech IT that supports the science and the quality system.
A bioscience company’s technology has to serve two audiences at once. Scientists need instruments, data and collaboration tools that just work. Quality, regulatory and investors need to know that data is protected, access is controlled and changes are documented. EVERNET provides managed IT services for biotech and life sciences companies that balance both.
We look after the business and lab-adjacent IT solutions around your research: networks that keep instruments separate from office traffic, identity and access for employees, collaborators and CROs, research data storage and backup, Microsoft 365, and the vendor relationships behind your ELN, LIMS, QMS and instrument software, platforms such as Benchling, LabWare, LabVantage and STARLIMS among them, as well as the data-sharing arrangements you keep with CROs, CDMOs and academic partners. As you grow from a founding team to a first lab and beyond, we help the environment scale without starting over.
Where systems fall under GxP or 21 CFR Part 11, EVERNET supports your quality team’s computer system validation with documented change control, access reviews and clear records of what changed and when. Your quality and regulatory team owns validation and compliance decisions; we make sure the IT evidence is there when they need it.
You’ll find EVERNET at BioCT events in Connecticut, and our design team has also worked with bioscience companies such as EvolveImmune Therapeutics on how they present their science online. If your lab’s website collects patient or study participant information, our article on HIPAA Privacy Rule compliance for lab websites explains what applies.
EVERNET works with bioscience companies from its Hartford office, about 100 miles from Boston, and supports teams in Connecticut and Massachusetts remotely day to day, with on-site work scheduled from Hartford.
What to work through.
Where biotech IT support usually starts.
Lab and office networks
Segmented networks for instruments such as sequencers, HPLC and plate readers, guests and business systems, so a problem in one area doesn’t reach the others.
Research data storage and backup
Clear homes for instrument output and analysis files, with backups, retention and restore tests agreed with your scientists.
Access for scientists and collaborators
Accounts and permissions for employees, contractors, CROs and academic partners, removed promptly when projects end.
Support for validated systems
Change control, access reviews and documentation that support your team’s GxP and 21 CFR Part 11 validation work.
Protecting intellectual property
Multifactor authentication, email security, device encryption and security awareness training: practical cybersecurity around your most valuable data.
Scaling from startup to lab
Microsoft 365, devices, onboarding and vendor management that grow with funding rounds, new hires and new sites.
Questions before you get started.
Can EVERNET help with 21 CFR Part 11 compliance?
We can configure and document the technical controls Part 11 depends on, such as unique user accounts, access control, audit trails, backups and change records, and support your validation activities. Compliance decisions belong to your quality and regulatory team.
How do you handle lab instruments on the network?
We inventory instruments and their controlling computers, place them on a separate network segment and agree an update approach with each instrument vendor, since many can’t be patched like office computers.
We’re an early-stage biotech. Is it too soon for managed IT?
Often it’s the best time. Setting up accounts, devices, backups and security properly for a small team is simpler than fixing them after the first lab opens.
Do you work with our internal IT or research computing staff?
Yes. EVERNET can run IT for you or work alongside your team in a co-managed model, with responsibilities written down.
Should research data live in the cloud or on-premises?
It depends on data volumes, instruments and collaborators. We’ll help you weigh cost, performance and security, and document where each kind of data lives.
What does cybersecurity for a biotech company involve?
Protecting research data and intellectual property while scientists still collaborate: multifactor authentication, email threat protection, encrypted devices, access that ends when a CRO project ends, backups you have tested, and short security training for staff. EVERNET runs these as part of managed IT or as a standalone security program.
How small a company do you work with?
Founding teams with a handful of laptops are common starting points; the setup grows with the first lab, the first CRO and each funding round. EVERNET has run managed IT since 2007 for organizations of many sizes.
