How it fits

Law firm IT support built around the matter lifecycle.

Law firm technology has to support the whole matter lifecycle: intake, conflict checks, document drafting, email, time entry, billing and client communication. Most firms run several systems to do that. EVERNET provides managed IT services and legal IT support that keep those systems working together and keep client information where it belongs. EVERNET has run managed IT since 2007 and has added cybersecurity and a marketing agency since, so a firm can keep one friendly partner as its needs grow.

We support the practice-management and legal software firms rely on, including Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, Needles Neos, CASEpeer, AbacusLaw, CARET Legal and LawPay. We coordinate with each vendor, so attorneys and staff have one friendly route to support instead of a list of help desks.

Cybersecurity for law firms is part of the service, not an add-on. ABA Model Rule 1.6(c) asks lawyers to make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to client information, and ABA Formal Opinions 477R and 483 address securing client communications and responding to a data breach. EVERNET helps put the technical safeguards in place (multifactor authentication, email security, device management, backups and security awareness training) while your firm decides what its professional obligations require. Our work is technology support, not legal advice.

EVERNET partners with the Baltimore County Bar Association through 2028 and has worked with the Tarrant County, San Antonio and New London County bar associations on their websites and member campaigns.

Some firms want us to handle everything. Others have an in-house IT person or an office manager who wants a partner. EVERNET works either way, fully managed or co-managed, with responsibilities written down so everyone knows who does what. Need marketing as well? See marketing and website design for law firms.

What to work through.

Where law firm IT support usually starts.

Practice-management and legal software

Installation, updates, integrations and vendor coordination for the legal applications your firm runs, with a named owner for each.

Document management and matter data

Map where documents, correspondence and matter records live, whether in NetDocuments, Worldox, SharePoint or file shares, with clear permissions and retention.

Cybersecurity for client confidentiality

Multifactor authentication, email threat protection, encrypted devices and security awareness training that support your duty to protect client information. See cybersecurity services.

Remote and court-ready access

Secure access for attorneys working from home, court or a client’s office, limited to approved devices and applications.

Backup and business continuity

Tested backups and a continuity plan, so staff know what to do when a matter-critical system is unavailable.

Onboarding, offboarding and vendors

A repeatable checklist for attorneys, paralegals and temporary staff joining or leaving, plus one point of contact for your technology vendors.

Questions before you get started.

Can you support our practice-management software?

Yes. Tell us the product, edition and how it’s deployed, in the cloud or on-premises, and we’ll define what EVERNET handles, what the vendor handles and how issues are escalated. We support common platforms such as Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, Needles Neos, CASEpeer and CARET Legal.

What should be checked before moving matter data to a new system?

Inventory active and closed matters, documents, templates, permissions and integrations. Agree which records move, how they’ll be validated and who signs off before the old system is retired.

How should remote access work for attorneys?

Start with approved users, devices and applications, then apply multifactor authentication and the firm’s access policies. Attorneys get what they need from home or court without opening up the whole network.

Do you work with our in-house IT staff?

Yes. EVERNET can take on the whole IT function or work alongside your internal staff in a co-managed model. We agree responsibilities up front so nothing falls between the cracks.

Can you help with ABA cybersecurity expectations?

We can help your firm put reasonable technical safeguards in place and document them: access controls, email security, backups and training. Your firm and its counsel decide what your ethical obligations require; EVERNET provides technology support, not legal advice.

What should a law firm's backup and recovery plan cover?

Matter files, email, practice-management data and the systems attorneys need in court. EVERNET sets up workstation and data backup with disaster recovery, agrees retention with the firm, and tests restores so the plan is proven before it is needed. See backup and disaster recovery.

Do you provide cybersecurity awareness training for law firms?

Yes, as an ongoing subscription with short lessons and simulated phishing, reported back to the firm. Our article on ABA cybersecurity training expectations explains what the profession asks for, and the security awareness training page covers how it runs.

Can you help with our cyber insurance application?

We can supply the technical answers and evidence an insurer’s questionnaire asks for (multifactor authentication, backups, endpoint protection, training) and close the gaps it exposes. Coverage decisions stay with the firm and its broker.
