Knoxville Bar Association: Website
Create a focused public entry point for Knoxville’s lawyer-referral service.
Design approach
A direct route to a lawyer referral
The Knoxville Bar Association wanted a focused public entry point for its lawyer-referral service. People looking for a lawyer often do not know where to begin, and a page crowded with association information can get in their way. The brief on this page was to use one principal referral action on the opening screen, explain the referral process in a short visual sequence and keep service background separate from the immediate task.
The artwork shows the homepage in a browser against a deep maroon background, with a large faded “01” behind it and the caption “A dedicated referral destination.” A white header holds the association logo with a short menu on the right. The hero is a photograph of two people shaking hands over legal documents, with the headline “Your Local Connection to Trusted Legal Help” in white, a gold subheading and a single outlined button, Get a Lawyer Referral. Below, a light gray panel with a scales icon begins the Hire a Lawyer step of the process. One action dominates the first screen.
1. Use one principal referral action in the opening screen.
2. Explain the referral process in a short visual sequence.
3. Keep service background separate from the immediate user task.

Why it works
One principal action and a short process explanation help visitors move from uncertainty to a useful next step.
The deliverable is a standalone website that introduces Knoxville’s lawyer-referral service and explains how to use it. The opening screen gives visitors one clear action, the step-by-step sequence shows what happens after they ask for a referral, and background about the service sits further down for those who want it. Running the service as its own site, separate from the main association website, lets the public reach the referral process directly without first sorting through member content.
