San Antonio Bar Association: Identity

Bring a recognizable San Antonio landmark into a more compact association mark.

San Antonio Bar Association

Design approach

A local landmark, distilled

The San Antonio Bar Association wanted to bring a recognizable San Antonio landmark into a more compact association mark. A local symbol gives an identity instant meaning, but it has to stay simple enough for everyday professional use. The brief on this page called for integrating the Alamo silhouette into a letter-based signature, using a restrained blue-and-gold treatment and setting a clearer hierarchy for the association name.

The artwork shows the mark centered in a thin gold frame on a cream background. Large navy serif letters spell SA, and the opening of the A is filled with a gold silhouette of the Alamo’s familiar curved facade. Beneath it, BAR is set in the same heavy navy serif, and the word Association runs underneath in small, widely spaced capitals. The result reads first as a monogram and second as a landmark, which keeps the symbol compact. Navy and gold are the only colors, so the mark stays legible at small sizes and in formal settings.

1. Integrate the Alamo silhouette into the letter-based signature.

2. Use a restrained blue-and-gold treatment.

3. Create a clearer association name hierarchy around the compact symbol.

Why it works
A restrained blue-and-gold palette and clear name hierarchy connect local recognition with professional use.

The deliverable is an association identity that incorporates the Alamo silhouette into a compact letter-based mark. The monogram works as the primary symbol, while the stacked name gives it a clear reading order: SA, then BAR, then Association. Because the landmark lives inside a letter rather than beside it, the mark stays compact enough for small sizes and tight spaces. The restrained two-color palette lets the association apply the mark consistently in print and on screen, wherever local recognition and professional credibility both matter.
