Prepare for recovery
EVERNET connects workstation and data backups with a practical plan to restore the information and operations your business needs. A successful backup record and a successful recovery are different things, so both need attention.
Start with the data, systems and dependencies the business needs to recover. Agree priorities, acceptable loss and interruption requirements with the business owner, then select and configure an approach that can be tested against those needs.
EVERNET’s services include workstation and data backup with disaster recovery. The scope should identify protected systems, retention, monitoring, recovery testing and the people who can authorize restoration. Exact recovery commitments and coverage must be documented rather than assumed.
What to work through.
A clear plan, from the first conversation to delivery.
Data scope
Identify the information and systems that need to be included in backup planning.
Recovery priorities
Agree the order in which critical information and business activities should be restored.
Testing
Define what will be tested, who reviews the result and how exceptions are recorded.
Questions before you get started.
What should we prioritize for recovery?
Identify the activities the business must resume and the information and systems they depend on. Agree the order of recovery with the people responsible for those activities. A list of servers alone may miss a critical application, account or external dependency.
Why is a restore test useful?
A restore test checks whether the protected information can be recovered in a usable way under the agreed conditions. Record the result, dependencies and follow-up. A backup job showing success does not by itself prove that the whole business process can be restored.
Is backup the same as business continuity?
Backup and recovery address protected information and systems. Business continuity also considers people, communication, alternate ways of working and decisions during disruption. Link the two plans so technical recovery supports the business priorities.
