Cybersecurity for Massachusetts
Reasonable safeguards, documented and maintained.
Massachusetts businesses range from Boston’s professional firms and Cambridge’s life sciences companies to manufacturers along Route 128 and I-495 and the colleges, hospitals and family-owned companies of Worcester, Springfield, Quincy and the South Shore.
Most Massachusetts businesses do not need an enterprise security program. They need the controls that stop the common attacks, email compromise, stolen passwords and ransomware, put in place properly, documented and kept current. EVERNET starts with a risk assessment, fixes the gaps in priority order and keeps the safeguards running as part of a managed agreement.
Where we start
A risk assessment of identities, email, devices, backups and vendors, with findings ranked by likelihood and impact.
What protection covers
Email threat protection, endpoint detection and response, multifactor authentication, password management, patching and security awareness training.
Compliance preparation
Documented policies and technical evidence for insurance questionnaires, client security reviews and frameworks such as HIPAA, CMMC or NIST.
Cybersecurity is usually delivered alongside managed IT; see cybersecurity services for the full scope, or explore pricing.
Doing business in Massachusetts
Massachusetts spells out its data security expectations in a regulation. 201 CMR 17.00 applies to businesses that hold personal information about Massachusetts residents, such as names with Social Security, driver’s license or financial account numbers. It requires a written information security program, encryption of that information on laptops and portable devices and when it travels over public or wireless networks, firewalls, current patches, malware protection, employee training and oversight of vendors that can reach the data. The program must be reviewed at least once a year.
When a breach happens, Chapter 93H requires notice to the Attorney General, the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and affected residents as soon as practicable and without unreasonable delay, and the report to the Attorney General asks whether you have a written program. Our cybersecurity work for Massachusetts businesses starts there: we compare your controls with the regulation, write or update the program, turn on encryption and multifactor authentication, and keep evidence that it is maintained. The state’s MassCyberCenter also publishes a Minimum Baseline of Cybersecurity for small businesses, built on the CIS Critical Security Controls, which makes a useful companion checklist.
What to work through.
Where Massachusetts security work usually starts.
Risk assessment
A structured review of identities, email, devices, backups and vendors, with findings ranked and a remediation plan.
Email and identity protection
Advanced email filtering, multifactor authentication and conditional access, the controls that stop most business email compromise.
Endpoint detection and response
Managed EDR on workstations and servers, with monitoring and response when something is found.
Security awareness training
Short, regular training and phishing simulations so staff recognize the attacks that get through.
Backup and recovery testing
Backups that are verified and restore-tested, with recovery times agreed in advance.
Cyber insurance and compliance evidence
Policies, controls and documentation that answer insurance questionnaires and client security reviews.

It is difficult to put into a review just how much we have valued this partnership. They have gone far beyond being a vendor to the Tarrant County Bar Association — they have become genuine supporters of our organization and the work we do. They have worked with us on everything from building our public-facing legal help website to guiding us through a complete rebranding and logo redesign. With every project, they take the time to understand our organization, our members, our mission, and what we are actually trying to accomplish rather than simply delivering a product. But what has impressed me most is how invested they have become in our success. They show up. They attend our events. They celebrate our wins. They bring us new ideas and look for ways they can help. When we work with them, it truly feels like we have another team in our corner. Our Bar Association is better because of this relationship, and I don't say that lightly. They have consistently gone above and beyond for us, and I am incredibly grateful for the creativity, responsiveness, enthusiasm, and genuine care they bring to everything they do. I cannot recommend them highly enough.Posted on Facebook![]()

EVERNET has played a pivotal role in our business growth. They have been a fantastic partner over the last year, doing everything from rebuilding our website to managing our IT difficulties to improving our internal processes. They took care of a lot of the headaches that come with small business ownership, which allowed me to focus on doing the work I love and getting more clients through the door. If your business needs help in marketing, IT, or security, I cannot recommend them enough.
