Moving from DALL·E to current OpenAI image tools
DALL·E was OpenAI’s family of text-to-image models, best known through DALL·E 2 and DALL·E 3. OpenAI has since retired them. Both models were shut down in the OpenAI API on May 12, 2026, and the dedicated DALL·E GPT in ChatGPT was retired on August 30, 2026. Image generation continues in ChatGPT and in the API through OpenAI’s newer GPT Image models.
