Google Cloud Networking is one of the most widely used cloud networking platforms in the world. It provides a range of services and tools to help businesses and organizations connect their resources and services on Google Cloud Platform. However, like any large-scale cloud service, it is not immune to issues and outages.
Currently at 9:32am ET on January 10th 2023, Google Engineers have reported an issue with Google Cloud Networking and are working on identifying a potential fix for it. The issue seems to be primarily affecting ingress traffic via load balancers to instances in the us-central1 and us-south1 regions. Specifically, there have been reports of intermittent timeouts for ingress traffic via load balancers to instances in these regions. In addition, there has been an elevated packet loss for traffic over public IP between instances in the us-central1 and us-south1 regions.
This issue can be particularly concerning for organizations that rely on Google Cloud Networking to connect their resources and services. It can impact the day to day operation of an organization greatly. While the Google support technicians are currently problem solving the issue, there is no timetable for when service will return to normal.
We at EVERNET are not immune to these types of network service issues either, as our website was impacted by this issue. In certain areas of the country people are not able to access our website. Another company impacted by this issue was SiteGround. SiteGround is a web domain service with well over 2 million domains world wide. This means that people in the regions affected were not able to access their user’s site. This was extremely difficult for SiteGround as they are reliant on the Google Cloud Network operating properly for their customers website to be active. Unfortunately, because this is something out of their control, their technical support specialist are left without having a solution for their customers.
Google Engineers are actively investigating the issue, and are working to diagnose the cause and resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Despite the inconvenience caused by the issue, it is important to remember that these kinds of issues are not uncommon in large-scale cloud services. Cloud providers invest heavily in their infrastructure and services to minimize the likelihood of such issues, but it is not possible to completely eliminate them.
For customers who are currently experiencing difficulties due to the issue with Google Cloud Networking, the best course of action is to closely monitor the situation and follow the recommendations provided by Google Engineers.
